The Warsaw Flowers formed in early 2007. They are James Stewart, Angus Stewart, Alister Douglas and Jeremy Lake (replacing Jason Coe in mid-2008).
The Warsaw Flowers find it so hard to classify their music that they've just about given up trying. If pressed, they will mumble something about "alternative-acoustic-electric-indie-folk-pop-Americana-core-alt.country-rock-wave"... and no, they don't really know what that means, either. The band listen to R Kelly as much as they listen to Elliott Smith. They aren't Polish and they know nothing about horticulture. However, they hope you enjoy their music as much as they enjoy making it.
In June 2008 The Warsaw Flowers entered the studio, with Adelaide producer Matt Hills, to record their debut EP, One Man’s Lament. This six-song EP displays the band’s eclectic, yet consistent sound, which itself is a reflection of The Warsaw Flowers' individual influences and musical tastes.
“This is good, honest indie. It'll get your toe tapping, and if you're not too cynical, might tug at your heart-strings too.” – Vijay Khurana, Triple J
“The Warsaw Flowers … they sounded pretty bloody good!” – Robbie Buck, Triple J, “Top Shelf”
“This not your typical release that would find itself in PEE but, nonetheless, we like good music when we hear it and The Warsaw Flowers deserve some words written about their demo … They have recorded a very mature bunch of songs of indie-styled, acoustic ramblings … Singer, James Stewart, has a familiar, yet unique, vocal styling that catches you very early on and, with only four songs on this demo, you’re left wanting more. 90/100” – PEE Magazine, Issue 41
“Reminiscent of bands such as Joy Division and The Cure, but the acoustic folk style of the band puts a unique Australian spin on the new wave sound … the success of this album is through the atmosphere contained within it. It is very special when a song can remind you of a place or a moment in time, and this album has that impressive quality.” – TheDwarf.com.au
“Simple, sweet acoustic indie.” – Rave Magazine
“Driven by acoustic guitars and complementary vocalists, The Warsaw Flowers showcase the placid melancholy of The Go-Betweens via thoughtful lyrical vignettes.” – Scott M, MTV guest reviewer
“The Warsaw Flowers write music so freakingly maudlin they make Nick Cave's classic ode to woe "Shiver" sound like the giddy handclap spastic attack of Patience Hodgson; they're that near brilliant and damn near fatal to experience! … The most awesome choice of opening act EVER.” – Spoz’s Rant
